Walter Ernst is an independent 1031 Exchange Consultant for Exeter 1031 Exchange Services, LLC and its affiliate companies. Walter focuses primarily on the Rocky Mountain States of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and New Mexico.

Mr. Ernst is exceptionally well suited to assist clients who wish to complete 1031 Exchanges on the sale of aircraft or aviation related equipment due to his extensive experience in the aviation industry.

With over 45 years in the aviation industry as a U.S. Air Force pilot, a Safety Inspector and Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration and a corporate executive for two of the largest aircraft charter and management companies in the nation, Walter brings substantial expertise to operating aircraft for added revenue stream and increasing value of aviation assets.

Mr. Ernst is the Principal in a consulting venture that concentrates on enhancing organizational effectiveness and efficiency through the implementation of Business Process Based Management and Business Operating systems. In this role he has acted as the Interim Chief Operating Officer for a large, dynamic transportation company and is a member of the board of directors of a non-profit that rescues and trains dogs to be service dogs.

He has in-depth experience in strategic planning within corporations, with the federal government and in the military. Part of his personal planning includes the investment strategy of the 1031 exchange process.

Walter is an experienced program manager including responsibility for two of the largest commercial air carriers in the nation. He also managed the implementation of a national program for the FAA.

Mr. Ernst has earned a Bachelors degree in Mathematics, a Master of Science in Engineering Science degree, a Master of Business Administration degree, is a graduate of the United States Air Force undergraduate and advanced pilot training and has completed the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Prior to starting his consulting venture, he was the Senior Vice President of Operations for one of the Berkshire Hathaway companies and was instrumental in the growth of that company into an industry leader. Before joining this company, Walter was the Vice President of Operations for another innovative air charter company.

Mr. Ernst spent twenty plus years with Federal Aviation Administration rising rapidly from an Aviation Safety Inspector, to a regional staff consultant and then managing numerous district and branch offices. He is responsible for creating the prototype certificate oversight office that is now the national norm. He has been recognized for his ability to inspire team members to excel and for teams to exceed customer expectations.

Walter joined the United States Air Force after completing his undergraduate studies where he earned his pilot wings and flew the Lockheed C-130 and the McDonald Douglas C-9 worldwide. He has over 450 combat flying hours and holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate.

He also taught Macro-Economics part time at the University of Texas San Antonio.

His two masters level thesis are entitled, “A Feasibility Study of Category IIIa Approach Procedures” and “A Study of Profitability in the Air Line Industry in a Deregulated Environment”.
